My Philosophy

I probably have a million photos of my children, and that is not hyperbole. I have been photographing my kids since the day they were born and, as a mother, I can attest to a few realities when it comes to images of your children.

1) Even though I love my amateur camera pics (taken with many different cellphones or fancy point-and-shoots over the years), the ones that were taken by a professional photographer stand out from the sea of images.

2) Digital images are sometimes lost or forgotten. Only the photos I have put into printed format, are memories I can reliably return to whenever I want. Deciding to make biennial photo books has been the most popular decision for image archiving in the house. My kids and visiting family or friends love flipping through the pages of these collections of precious memories.

A photo of my younger daughter, taken by a professional photographer friend, Steffen Thalemann. Can you tell the difference? Unlike the point-and-shoot camera image, this is something actually worth framing.

3) Every year your child will look different and be into different things, and it’s amazing how quickly we forget all the little details (that blanket she carried around everywhere, the way the baby liked to suckle on your chin (for teething relief?), their various Halloween (and non-Halloween) costumes, how sweet the doggie was with your kids, that time when your daughter was still a voracious reader, how they liked to climb the furniture, the list is endless and sweet.
